Over 800 million children, women and men are still starving worldwide. We support the initiatives of people who are independently seeking a way out of hunger and poverty.

Beneficiaries of SWISSAID projects are among the poorest sections of the population in the countries where they live, and the ones most in need of help. Smallholder families – paradoxically, those who produce most of the food – are particularly affected by hunger and poverty. Our declared aim is therefore not only to alleviate poverty directly by relief to beneficiaries, but also to promote structural conditions that will help to solve the poverty problem. The best way to achieve this is to link grassroots work with specific political demands.
