Berne/Lausanne, 7 February 2018. The Executive Committee of the Foundation Board of Trustees has elected the long-standing Co-Executive Director of Greenpeace Switzerland as the new managing director of the development organisation SWISSAID. Markus Allemann takes over from Caroline Morel on 1 April 2018.
Markus Allemann holds a university degree in communication management and brings with him many years of management experience in Switzerland and abroad. Prior to joining Greenpeace, he led the Stop AIDS Campaign for the Federal Office of Public Health.
„Health, environment and development belong together. I look forward to working together with SWISSAID employees to address the concerns of the rural population in the partner countries. Safe, ecologically produced food becomes a growing challenge because of the climate crisis in many countries”, says the new managing director.
Thanks to Caroline Morel
Caroline Morel has headed SWISSAID for the past 15 years. She has modernised SWISSAID and decentralised its management structures. The topics of ecological agriculture, equality and responsible trade were the focus of her many years’ of activity. Here in Switzerland too, the topic of raw materials trading was placed on the development policy agenda at an early stage. Under her leadership, SWISSAID successfully promoted greater transparency in the Swiss raw materials sector so that the wealth of these resources benefits the entire population in the producing countries.
The Executive Board of Trustees thanks Caroline Morel for her successful work and unwavering commitment and wishes her all the best for the future.
As a Swiss charity, SWISSAID is active in nine countries on three continents. The projects focus on the topics of safe nutrition by means of ecological cultivation methods, equal opportunities and transparency in the raw materials sector. SWISSAID employs 182 people worldwide, 39 of whom work in Switzerland.
